I just realized I haven't posted a very updated version of my progress on the model of the room for the duchess scene. So here's about where I'm at. Currently I'm working on modeling out the Duchess herself, so in this scene I'm posting there's just an odd floating head where I've started working on her.

Harry Potter- Great Hall
One of the first environments I ever modeled was sophomore year and I modeled the great hall from Harry Potter. Well, looking back on that this year I realized how awful it was, so I decided to re-model it. So here I've posted first the original model from sophomore year, and then my new model from senior year.

Duchess change
So after a discussion with one of my professors I am changing the story behind Duchess. She is now a ghost who is consistently waiting for someone, perhaps her one true love. So everywhere that the light touches is going to be perfect and pretty as if preserved. Everywhere there is darkness is going to be torn apart and old, except for her. She will stay pretty and perfect except wherever the light doesn't touch her will be transparent and ghost like. So I went through my concept piece and quick changed it.

Duchess update!
So I had a critique on my duchess project and no one could understand that the illustration I have now is not the final illustration or a representation of the final illustration it was just meant to be a reference for the composition and the colors and textures I want everything to be. It doesn't include the lighting which changes the whole feel and environment of the whole piece. So I did a quick add on to show the lighting and the final mood of the piece so they could understand what I was going for. So here's that.
Also I've been working on modeling the room, which isn't close to being done but here's my progress on that too.

Personal Branding
Duchess color change
Once again I have changed my color pallette on the duchess piece. Charlotte keeps telling me I'm spending too much time on the pre-visualization of the piece and not enough time on the piece, so this will probably be my last update on the layout and now I really need to focus on getting it all modeled. However I wanted to spend more time making it look right now so I can see what it will look like when I go in to do final textures, lighting, etc and I wont have to be figuring this stuff out then. Anyways, I changed the color palette basically because I felt the scene was too warm. It's supposed to be very cold and lonely and depressing, so I changed to a cooler color palette and saturated everything a little more.I also added in a rainy background, because whats more sad than a rainy day? and I added in a chandelier to fill in the upper half of the scene a little more.

Updated Layout for Duchess
So i totally changed the layout of "Duchess". I also threw in some color and textures for fun. I think in the final 3D piece I'm going to make it all realistic looking except the character will be stylized.

Table
Here I have the table model for my Duchess scene. I'm fairly happy with it, but I think I need to fix a little of the geometry.

Senior Year Thesis Project
So for my senior thesis I'm doing 4 CG illustrations and each one follows certain criteria.
1. ultra realistic
2. historical
3. character driven
4. stylized
So far I've decided that for the ultra realistic I'm going to be modeling the Valley Dale Ballroom. I'll post pictures after I get an appointment to go shoot.
For the historical I'm doing a Victorian setup. Everything is going to look fairly realistic except the girl in it will be stylized. It's about a girl who is very rich and beautiful and she has all the jewels and finery she wants but she has no friends and is very lonely.

senior year has begun!
So senior year is finally here! I think it's going to be a really great semester and I'm going to try to post on here as much as possible. Some of what I've been working on for the past month or so, however, I can't put up here as I'm doing it for a client for an app for the Mac and since it's not out yet I don't want to reveal any of it. So for now I am going to put an updated post of the character I started working on in the beginning of summer. Obviously she still needs a lot of work. Besides hair and clothes, I also need to finish her feet (she only has one toe) and give her ears as well as tweak the anatomy a little bit.
Next week I will post up a little about the character and who she is.
Here's a smoothed view of her:

model progress
So, my idea to do a digital painting every week came to a crashing halt when my tablet broke. Saving up for a new one now, but till then im working on a model of a female figure. She's going to be human but not necessarily realistic, shell be cartoonish. Heres a picture of my progress so far.

First Post :)
So, I have decided this summer that I'm going to practice digital painting. I definetely wont have time to do one per day, so I'm going to try for one per week. Heres line art for the character in my first one, I'm working on the background now.
Also, heres a few animations from my finals. The first is a swimming fish using cloth dynamics done in Maya 2011. The background is done with Adobe After Effects. The second is is practicing dialogue with the moom rig. The dialogue is taken from Ella Enchanted.
